How to Choose a Folding Scooter

A folding scooter has to suit the way you travel. Start with the heaviest piece you will lift, then the folded size, then the battery and range.

Weigh the piece you will lift
If you drive somewhere and ride from the car, you lift the scooter on every trip. Ask what each weight includes. The eFOLDi Compass weighs 25 lb without the battery and 29 lb with it. The Go-Go Carbon is 35 lb without its battery and 39 lb with it.
Some scooters split so each lift is lighter. The Buzzaround CarryOn separates into two pieces, and the body alone is 47.5 lb. Others help with the lift. The Go-Go Super Portable weighs 41.6 lb without the battery and has a lift built in to help you load it.

Measure the trunk, then the fold
Measure the trunk opening, the floor and the height under any cover. Then compare those numbers with the folded size, not the riding size.
The Go-Go Carbon folds to 19 by 17.5 by 26.5 inches. The Go-Go Super Portable folds flat to under 12 inches with the seat on. The Buzzaround CarryOn folds to 12 inches high with the seat off. A low trunk may take one and not another.

Choose a fold you can manage
Folds work in different ways. The eFOLDi Compass folds in two steps without coming apart. The Go-Go Carbon folds and locks in seconds. The Go-Go Super Portable stands up on its own once folded.
Some scooters come apart instead, so you carry the pieces one at a time. The Buzzaround CarryOn separates into two pieces. Try both styles in our showroom and see which you can manage on your own.

Check the battery before you fly
Airlines look at a battery's size in watt hours. The Buzzaround CarryOn comes with two packs, and the smaller one is 156 watt hours, meant for travel. The Go-Go Carbon battery is 288 watt hours. The Travel Buggy HELIX comes with two packs of about 139 watt hours each.
Pack choice matters too. The standard battery on the Go-Go Super Portable is 300 watt hours, and its optional 16 Ah upgrade cannot be flown. If you fly, stay on the standard pack. Check with your airline and tell them in advance.

Read range at the rider's weight
Range drops as rider weight goes up. The Go-Go Super Portable goes about 16.3 km at a 220 lb rider and about 14.2 km at 300 lb. The eFOLDi Compass goes up to 16 km, and its real range depends on terrain, rider weight, temperature and other conditions.
A second battery adds distance. The Buzzaround CarryOn comes with two packs. The larger pack gives about 23 km, and running both gives about 35 km at a 200 lb rider.

Test the ride, not just the fold
A light scooter still has to feel secure. The HELIX has a wide track that helps it feel steady outdoors, and solid tires with nothing to puncture. The Buzzaround CarryOn has a tiller that adjusts to suit you and armrests that flip up.
Check the weight capacity against the rider. The eFOLDi Compass and the HELIX each carry up to 265 lb. The Buzzaround CarryOn and Go-Go Super Portable each carry up to 300 lb.

Folding scooter questions
What is the weight limit on a folding scooter?
Weight limits run from 265 lb to 300 lb, depending on the model. The Buzzaround CarryOn, Go-Go Carbon and Go-Go Super Portable each carry up to 300 lb. The eFOLDi Compass and the HELIX each carry up to 265 lb. Bring the rider's weight when you visit, and we can compare models side by side.
Does the seat have to come off to fold it?
On some models it does. The Go-Go Super Portable folds flat to under 12 inches with the seat still on. The Buzzaround CarryOn folds to 12 inches high once the seat is off. Try each fold yourself in our showroom, and count the pieces you would carry to the car.
Do any folding scooters come with two batteries?
Yes, two of ours do. The Buzzaround CarryOn comes with two lithium packs: a 12.5 Ah pack for range and a 6.5 Ah pack for travel. The HELIX includes two lithium packs of about 139 watt hours each. Ask us which setup suits the trips you have planned.
Can I take a folding scooter on a cruise?
It depends on the cruise line, so check with them before you book. The HELIX is sold as airline and cruise approved, and its two lithium packs are about 139 watt hours each. Tell the cruise line in advance that you are bringing a mobility scooter.
What are watt hours on a scooter battery?
Watt hours tell you how much energy a battery holds. Airlines use this number when they check a battery, so it matters for travel. The Buzzaround CarryOn travel pack is 156 watt hours, and the Go-Go Super Portable standard battery is 300 watt hours. Check each figure with your airline.
Is financing available for a folding scooter?
