Seat width and depth are the most important measurements, followed by seat to floor height and back height. A chair that is too narrow creates pressure points, while one that is too wide makes pushing harder and posture worse. The best way to get it right is to be measured in person. At our South Surrey store we measure the user, factor in cushions and clothing, and recommend a size that fits comfortably and supports good posture.

A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the user can self propel, while a transport chair has four small wheels and is designed to be pushed by a caregiver. Transport chairs are lighter and fold smaller, which makes them great for appointments, travel, and quick outings. If the user wants independence at home or in the community, a self propel wheelchair is usually the better choice. We carry both and can help you compare them side by side.

Standard steel wheelchairs usually weigh 35 to 40 lb, lightweight aluminum models around 25 to 35 lb, and ultralight chairs like the Drive AeroFly or the Motion Composites MOVE can weigh around 20 lb or less. Yes. Our South Surrey showroom has standard, lightweight and transport wheelchairs you can sit in and compare side by side. We measure the user and recommend a size that fits comfortably and supports good posture. You are welcome to bring a caregiver or family member.

A reclining wheelchair has a backrest that leans back. It lets the user change position through the day, for comfort or for medical reasons. The Viper Plus and the Guardian both recline up to 180 degrees and come with elevating leg rests. We also carry the Kanga tilt-in-space wheelchair, which gives 45 degrees of tilt and folds to 12 inches wide. An occupational therapist can help with the final choice. Yes. The Bariatric Sentra Extra-Heavy-Duty Wheelchair holds up to 500 lb at every seat width. It comes with a 20, 22 or 24 inch wide seat and still folds to 13 inches. For more than 500 lb, ask us about the Sentra EC Extra-Extra-Wide, built with 26, 28 or 30 inch seats and rated to 700 lb. We measure the user and check the seat width with you before you choose.

Insurance plans and funding programs can help with the cost, depending on the plan and the user's needs. We bill Pacific Blue Cross and Green Shield directly for eligible equipment, and we are a registered medical supplier for First Nations Health Benefits. If MS Canada's Quality of Life Equipment Program has approved you, bring the letter and we invoice MS Canada directly. Where a plan needs pre-approval, we submit it before anything is ordered.
