How do I choose the right size wheelchair?

Seat width and depth are the most important measurements, followed by seat to floor height and back height. A chair that is too narrow creates pressure points, while one that is too wide makes pushing harder and posture worse. The best way to get it right is to be measured in person. At our South Surrey store we measure the user, factor in cushions and clothing, and recommend a size that fits comfortably and supports good posture.

What is the difference between a transport chair and a standard wheelchair?

Accepted Answer

A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the user can self propel, while a transport chair has four small wheels and is designed to be pushed by a caregiver. Transport chairs are lighter and fold smaller, which makes them great for appointments, travel, and quick outings. If the user wants independence at home or in the community, a self propel wheelchair is usually the better choice. We carry both and can help you compare them side by side.

How much does a lightweight wheelchair weigh?

Standard steel wheelchairs usually weigh 35 to 40 lb, lightweight aluminum models around 25 to 35 lb, and ultralight chairs like the Drive AeroFly or the Motion Composites MOVE can weigh around 20 lb or less.
